Bethel Search and Rescue

is a 14(c)(3) non-profit that operates on the support of the people and organizations in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region and beyond. By supporting BSAR, supporters become partners in SAR missions. Each supporter should know that when a SAR mission is completed or successful, they have made it possible to find lost victims. Many thanks to all of our supporters, both individuals and businesses.

Scammon Bay SAR volunteers radio-in the location of three lost men they had just found. The men's red (right) and black (below) snow machines had run out of gas. The black one is perched on the highest ground near the cave, which led searchers to them. The SAR team had built a windbreak of tarp, the red snowmachine's cowling, and their sled to protect the men from winds.

Alaska State Trooper Paul Randall speaks to members of the Chevak SAR group during a debriefing session after a search for a missing young man traveling between Hooper Bay and Chevak. The search did not end well. Nonetheless, the Alaska State Troopers provide immeasurable support to SAR teams across the Y-K Delta. At bottom right, DPS Pilot Earl Samuelson looks on.

A SAR volunteer chainsaws an opening in river ice while his fellow volunteers from the tundra villages of Atmautluak, Nunapitchuk and Kasigluk prepare to probe and drag the river bottom near Nunapitchuk for a man who fell through ice in a snowmachine.
